Who We Are

Lisa Weiner-Mahfuz

“If you have come to help me you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound with mine, then let us work together”

I am a community organizer, capacity builder, writer and speaker that has worked across movements for social and economic justice for twenty years. I am passionate about doing community and organizational work that connects issues, identities and communities in strategic and powerful ways.

I’ve traveled the country organizing, writing and speaking about a range of community based issues for the purpose of building more interconnected organizations, communities and movements. My writings can be found in an anthology entitled Colonize This! Young Women of Color and Feminism, through an online writing project entitled Busting Binaries which I co-author with Ana Maurine Lara and on the Bilerico Project Blog.

I am the former Southern and Midwest Regional Organizer for the National Office of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, founder of Intersections Consulting and the former Director of Capacity Building for the National LGBTQ Task Force. While at the Task Force I led a multi-year capacity building project for grassroots LGBT groups around the country as well as the organizations racial justice work.

Most recently I was the Executive for Programs and Strategic Partnerships for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. During my time with RCRC, I raised $14 million dollars in funding and increased the annual operating budget from 1.5 to 2.5-million-dollars. I built and implemented a new external communications infrastructure for the organization, led RCRC’s partnerships program and implemented new programs that created impact within the reproductive justice movement. As a capacity builder, I has experience doing this work within organizations and as an independent consultant.

I launched interesections/intersecciones consulting in 1997. My practice is dedicated to helping organizations, individuals and communities sharpen their capacity, leadership, organizing strategies and commitment to full inclusion. I do this through coaching, organizational development, anti-oppression training, keynote speaking, writing and community organizing.

intersections/interseccions is not your typical consulting practice! We are a thinking, building and doing practice! We think about community based issues in complex and intentional ways, we build political power and strong organizations that represent the full breadth and depth of the communities they serve and we do this by rolling up our sleeves and working with clients who are engaged in meaningful organizational transformation and movement building.

intersections/interseccions has a strong commitment to collaboration. As a result, we specialize in bringing together some of the best minds in the worlds of community organizing and capacity building to offer our clients innovative approaches to organization and movement building.
